Driftless Area
Rating: 3, temperature: 58 ℉, condition: Heavy Rain.
UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: Only a small amount of rainfall with no real accumulation. This drizzle did not cause a massive melt or runoff.UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: Gentle rain shower in Viroqua.
Waters are all still running clear to slightly stained from melting snow yesterday. The showers in the forecast have all but fizzled out, so fear of a massive melt and runoff are pretty much gone.
Warmer and cloudy today, it just feels fishy in the Driftless today!
Fishing yesterday was fantastic with fish feeding heavily on sub surface scuds and thicker bodied nymphs, as well as midges on the surface. A few reports of slate winged duns hatching in the afternoon on some streams too.
Once the sun started to go down below the ridges, fishing simply shuts down. With the warmer weather however fishing is solid from about 9:00 until 5 or so in the evening.
