Driftless Area

Rating: 4, temperature: 84 ℉, condition: Cloudy.

That ugly hot weather has passed and fishing will get back on track.
We are in summer conditions where we fish hard early and catch a handful of midge hatches, but mostly fish sub surface with small nymphs and scuds.
Mid day you can bomb terrestrials with a nymph dropper, or take a break from the sun.
Late in the evening fish will rise to a mix of midges, caddis, and mayflies.  Generic patterns that ride flush in the surface film will work (as will terrestrials, especially ants).
Do not overlook leeches and streamers when the sun is off the water as they can be extremely effective this time of year.
