Driftless Area

Fishing over in Iowa consists of fishing the 'winter window'. Look for the days that daytime temperature hits near 40 and nighttime is cloudy (to trap heat). Then fish the peak water temperature, which is usually from 10-3. Fish will feed subsurface on midge larvae, micro bead head nymphs, and scuds. There is always a chance of a midge hatch (the winter midges can hatch in sub-zero weather!) and rising fish too.
