Driftless Area
Rating: 4, temperature: 53 ℉, condition: Flurries.
The craneflies have arrived! The hatch the past couple of days has been pretty thick with lots of surface activity. There are also a handful of caddis and olives hatching too.
Waters are low and clear with temps in the low to mid 50s.
Fishing has been great with craneflies and soft hackles, with some fish even taking large terrestrials that are orange.
Subsurface fishing has also been quite good with cranefly larvae and other gray bodied flies twitched below riffles. Scuds, leeches, and midge larvae are also catching fish.
The weather this weekend looks excellent. The bright sun that usually puts fish down should not be as detremental as long as the craneflies are coming off!
